pregnancy: 38 weeks and 3 days
weight: 8 lbs 5 oz (3985 gr)
length: 20.5 inches (52 cm)
head circumference: 14 1/4 inches (36.5 cm)
APGARs: 9 and 10

Yesterday I went to see the dr for my 38 week check up. He did in an internal and I was 1-2 cms. I asked him if the head was down and he said he thought so. My friend and I were discussing breech deliveries a couple of days ago and I mentioned that my dr would deliver a breech. At the appt I asked the dr if he would deliver a breech. He said he would do a version. So I asked if that didn't work then what. He said a c-sec. I was a bit surprised and said so. Then he mentioned that If I was 8-9 cms he would try a breech delivery. He then asked if the baby did some big movements. I said no just the usual kicks and told him I was just curious.

After the exam I felt a bit wet but didn't think much of it. We headed home. On the way we stopped for a bite but I stayed in the car. When I got out of the car at home. I got really wet. The dr must have broken my membranes during the exam. I hurried to the bathroom and collected some fluid in my urine bottle. I used a toddler diaper as a pad. Some of the kids caught me and had a good laugh. Reg started to pack my bag and I went on the net to let all my cyber buddies know that it was time. We finished packing the bags and headed downtown.

We stopped at the Chinease take out like we always do. I was only having one contraction an hour so there was no rush. We ate and headed to the hospital.

We arrived just after 9 pm. I gave the specimen bottle to the triage nurse. She examined me and I was 3-4 cms. Maybe those car contraction did do something. I was put on a monitor for a while. The baby was fine. Then I was put in my own room.

For 2.5 hours nothing happened. They wanted to see if I would progress on my own. The dr came in and examined me and there was no change. He ordered some pit for me. The only problem was there were too many women about to deliver and they were afraid I was going to be fast. LOL.

I had been trying to write all my birth stories before Colin was born. I still had half of Rachels left so I continued typing here at the hospital. I finally got it finished. Reg had borrowed a laptop from work so I could type up Colins. I also brought my kids picture from my homepage to show off to the staff.

At 12 midnight I called my cyber friend to give her an update. I never spkoe to her before and it was fun even tho I had nothing to report. She was at chat and I was missing it. She gave them a report.

Around 1:30 am the started my pit drip. We asked about the epi and she said as soon as I had regular contractions I could have the epi. We just bought a new little camcorder that had a 3 inch tv. Our old one just broke and we wanted one for the birth so we bought another. We were able to copy and bring a video to watch at the hospital. We watch "9 months". It was silly but maybe a little to close to home.

After the video I was having regular contractions so i asked for my epi. The nurse started to say that they weren't painful enough yet. Reg got a bit angry and told her to ask the dr. She came back and said the anesthesiologist was on his way.

The epi went really well. I think it was the best job I ever had done. Last delivery I had a walking epi but this was more special as it was continuous as well. The nurse wanted me to lie on my side and turn ever half hour. We tried to get some sleep.

Morning turned to day and shift changed. I was examined again and I was still 3-4 cms. LOL They worried I`d go too fast! My dr came by at 9 am to say hello. He asked if I had been checked recently. I said that I had been and that there was no change. He said he was off and that he'd come back when he was called.

Around 9 am I started having stronger contractions. By 9:45 I was in a lot of pain. It wasn't just pressure. Reg asked the nurse to make my epi stronger. She started to say that the dr would want me to be able to push if I was close to 10 cms. She checked me and said that my cervix was gone but there was a lip or sac of amniotic fluid. She asked if I had a u/s. I said yes and she asked if the head was down and I said yes. She said she better call the dr. She called and then upped my epi. The pain was still bad and I started losing it. The dr arrived and checked me. He looked shocked and angry. I wondered if I was still just 4 cms and they called him early. He annonced that I was 10 cms and breech!

I could feel him starting to come out. The epi started working better and I was able to handle the pain. They busily broke down the bed and got ready. The dr asked for some pipper forcepts. He and the med student gowned up. When they were finished the dr asked me to push. I thought the pushing would be one push like usual but not this time. He kept asking me to push over and over. It was only 2 minutes of pushing but it seemed longer. Then Colin was out. He certainly didn't need the forcepts. I didn't tear either. Reg caught the whole thing on video and I can't wait to go home and see it!

Reg was asked to cut the cord but he was filming so I did it again. The nurse rushed him to the warming table only to find his apgars were 9 and 10! I thought you had to be a ped to get a 10 LOL. He is very cute and quiet. He hardly cried at all. The nurse and reg went to weigh him. He weighed 8 pounds 5 ounces.

I asked to leave early again and they were concerned about my bleeding but its really not bad at all. My 6 hours are almost up so I`m getting ready to go home.
